Clement Isong Foundation with support from ActionAid Nigeria and in partnership with the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom State Civil Societies Forum, National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Youth Advocacy Cluster is set to organize a one-day Youth Agenda Setting Policy Dialogue with Governorship candidates.
The event will bring together Political candidates and citizens to a roundtable for a policy dialogue to unveil a state blueprint that articulates the aspiration of young people. Young people are the lifeblood of any nation. They constitute half the population of Nigeria, yet are faced with poverty, unemployment, insecurity, and lack of basic infrastructure. To solve these lingering socio-political and economic crises young people converged in Uyo to lead conversations that will redefine the concept of governance by identifying key priority areas for policy reforms.
Ahead of the Policy Dialogue, a demand charter was developed, as young people drawn from the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Forum of village youth presidents, Nigerian youth parliament-Akwa Ibom State chapter, Akwa Ibom Female Youths, Voluntary Uniform Youth organizations, Youth Advocacy Cluster, Media, civil society organizations, Community Based Organizations, including a versed online community participated in a roundtable discussion aimed to formulate the Akwa Ibom Youth Demand Charter.
Over Ten (10) thematic focus that cuts across Health, Education, Economic Development, Security, Technology/Innovation, Governance, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Climate Justice, Transportation, and Gender and Social Inclusion were explored. Different communities and institutions that participated in the roundtable policy discussion have populated their aspirations in these critical sectors to enrich democracy and change the dysfunctional culture of governance. They have harnessed ideas to suggest policy reforms for political candidates.
The Agenda Setting Policy Dialogue with Governorship Aspirants will be a first of its kind in Akwa Ibom, and it will help define key ask of people in 2023.
